Description

FASTER is a mobile application designed for measuring changes in speech clarity and hand strength. The app consists of a graphical user interface that lets users record how they pronounce a set of words and test their hand strength by following on-screen instructions. The app stores the user's baseline results and compares their current results to the baseline to inform the user of any changes.

Usage

FASTER can be installed from the Apple App Store by iOS users.

Privacy Policy

FASTER is a mobile app developed solely for the purpose of allowing the user to measure and quantify any changes in their voice or hand strength. The app does not have a user authentication process but does require a login name which can be any name the user wishes to use. This name is used only to link the baseline measurements with the current measurements by the app and not for authentication or identification purposes.

What information is collected
FASTER collects data necessary to calculate the measurements of speech clarity and hand weakness. Voice data is the most sensitive type of data being collected; however, these data are only sent to a server for processing to calculate speech clarity measures.  The only other data the app collects is the scores of the hand test (left and right hand).

How the information is used
The information collected by this app is used to inform the user if their speech clarity and hand strength have changed either in the positive or negative direction as compared to baseline. Audio recordings are sent to a server that provides the voice quality measurements but are not stored on the server.

How the information is collected
The user is asked to pronounce a set of words that appear on the screen and then repeatedly flip their hands back and forth while holding the phone. The voice files are not stored either on the server or on the device (smartphone, tablet, etc) after they have been processed. The hand test scores are computed locally on the device and do not get transferred to the server and are stored locally on the device only for the purposes of displaying them to the user.

How we store and protect the information
All data is stored on the device anonymously. The user is asked to provide a login name which can be any name they wish to use. This name is not used to identify the user -  it is only used internally by the app to link the baseline assessments of speech clarity and hand strength with the current assessment in order to compare them and measure changes.
